Overview
XER Manager is a complete XER file cleaner with the ability to define processing rules for over 65 categories of data found in XER files. The list includes several categories exclusive to P6 Web Access data which is often included in XER files without the knowledge of the P6 user. This allows you to action all important data. This product has been designed specifically to assist with the exchange of Primavera XER files between organisations using any number of pre-defined processing templates. The first step in using XER Manager is to establish one or more processing templates that define the rules for processing.
If you intend to distribute XER files to others, then the template rules will be around data that you do not wish to share that is mixed with the data you need to share. XER Manager assists with this pre-cleaning process and has been tested with P6 R8 XER files. If you receive Primavera P6 XER files from others then there will be data in the files that you do not wish to import into your target database or import using the internal names used by the source of the XER File. XER Manager assists with the post-cleaning process and import preparation.
XER Manager has the ability to optionally obfuscate names so that they become meaningless yet remaining consistent across all XER files received from the same source. XER Manager has the ability to optionally prefix names and optionally use a different prefix for each category of data. e.g., all calendars can be automatically renamed by adding a nominated prefix, avoiding import clashes.
XER Manager has the ability to automatically undertake spot cleans by nominating the category of data and any field name to be cleared or given a specified value. For example the removal of email addresses and telephone numbers from resources. You can define spot cleaning on any field in multiple categories.
XER Manager will identify phantom projects within an XER file and your rules will be applied to these as well as the normal exported projects within the XER file. For example spot cleaning of the WBS budget information fields will be applied to all phantom projects found in the XER file as well as the exported projects.
XER Manager has the ability to automatically remove over 40 different categories of data. For example the removal of activity codes, project codes, document categories, document statuses, notebook topics, expense categories, risks, risk types, thresholds, and all those user defined fields, plus resource codes, cost accounts, issues and more including unused currencies and units of measure. This ensures your target database will not be polluted by unwanted data or external configuration definitions.
